Cité of the cliffs, limestone
sentinel, Bonifacio, more génoise of the cities Corsica, calls the
periphrasis as a beautiful woman calls the compliment.
Passage tightened between Corsica and
Sardinia, the mouths of Bonifacio, strewn with a multidude of islands,
offer a space of navigation and stopovers unforgettable. With
the southern extrème of the island, draws up the white citadel
génoise, whose ramparts protect the town of Bonifacio. The high
chalky cliffs of the mouths, cut by the wind and the spray, cause an
immense emotion. In 1840, gustave Flaubert on a journey in
Corsica said:
"One would not be to say what occurs in you to similar
spectacles: I remained a half hour without stirring up, and
looking at as an idiot white the broad outline which extended at the
horizon... ".
Today still one cannot remain insensitive with the sight
of such a spectacle, one of splendours of the Mediterranean.
Here all is different, the color of the ground and the sea, the
nature of the things, the speech of the men and the women.
Hautes of more than 60 meters, the white
cliffs, striated by erosion in deep wrinkles, are cut out on a hundred
meters to give accés to the most extraordinary creek of the
Mediterranean. The natural port is inserted with more than 1500
meters inside the grounds, creating a providential harbour with the
shelter of the winds and waves.
CE place which seems makes for the
hackers is in charge of history: the "injury of Bonifacio",
the oldest trace of human presence in Corsica, lived there here more
than 8000 years, with the pre-Neolithic era.
Bonifaciens
know well the stopovers of St François of base, Charles Quint,
Bonaparte; as they remember the memorable seats during which the
women nourissaient the defenders of their milk.
Mboard the mouths can also be accessible.
During the summer, navigation appears there one of most
beautiful world. It is understood easily that thousands of
sailing ships and hundreds of thousands of tourists come to make here
trotts it marine of their life. They will set out again with
unforgettable memories of this extraordinary site, which would deserve
to be classified with the world inheritance of humanity by UNESCO.
